What Is Your New Year’s Resolution?
It is not really pleasing to start the year by reminding ourselves about sin. But if we have to talk about sin then, I guess, starting it off now would be as good as any other day in reminding ourselves about it. I checked the definition of sin in the dictionary, of course, and it says, that sin is an act regarded by theologians as a transgression of God’s will (written or revealed). It is also defined, as, sin equals (=) serious mistake. So, if I say that sin is serious then I am double emphasizing its seriousness. It is just like saying that a serious mistake is serious, or it is a serious, serious mistake. :) Yup, sin is really pretty serious. And it is not a blunder nor a weakness. Nowadays, people normally calls it a moment of weakness. Well, hello dolly, it is not even an “oops”. “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,”
Hebrews 10:26 ESV “How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?”
Hebrews 10:29 ESV To do or commit sin is a choice. A decision made beforehand, pre-meditated to violate God’s will (written or revealed). When we make sin our choice, we cross the line. The idea here is a rational, intentional, willful decision. When I could choose to do right and I choose to do wrong instead - that’s deliberate sin. With that in mind, I will tell you what I keep telling myself (again and again) when dealing with sin: * Seek and obtain the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
* Deal aggresively with your sin; avoid situations that will lead you to sin.
* Set-up parameters for your attitudes and behaviors; be conscious about it.
* Do not tolerate sin; don’t rationalize it or play around it.
* Renew your mind with the word/music/books/shows/movies of/about God. Remember: When we make sin our choice, we cross the line. |
